Tonight was an evening for playing with domains and DNS updates. I added my dohman.net domain to my WP.com dohman.wordpress.com account so the two websites are now one, but hosted here at WordPress.com. Dohman.net is the primary domain so people will see it as dohman.net. With this move I was able to use the WP.com custom domain settings with my Google mail MX records along with a handful of CNAME’s and a TXT or two. All updated without a hitch and I’m happy to see my Google Apps gmail is still working. DNS propagation took a couple hours for me at home. Other records and whois are still updating so all propagation is not yet complete but should be by morning.
The other bit of domain play tonight was registering twinsrotation.com from WP.com and applying it to my MLBlog twinsrotation.mlblogs.com. Now both my twinsrotation.wordpress.com and twinsrotation.mlblogs.com both point to twinsrotation.com. I wanted to register a domain here through WP.com so I have access to our domain management system through WWD. I had a ticket where someone was referring to something in the domain management system which I could not see to verify what the user was seeing. Now I can play in the WWD management UI and know what the people are experiencing.
Time will tell if I can post some real stuff here at dohman.net and follow the Minnesota Twins starting rotation at twinsrotation.com. The toughest thing will be remembering to do my test posts on other testing blogs. :)
